Swallowing Stones FanFicThat day, I waited silently under the Ghost Tree, waiting, just waiting, for Jenna to wake up. I restated in my mind what I was going to tell the police. That I, Michael MacKenzie, killed Jenna Ward's father that regretful summer day with the gun I received on my birthday. That it was an accident, and I didn't mean for it to happen. I glanced at the Winchester rifle laying next to me. If I have never gotten it in the first place, I wouldn't have had to show it off to Joe, and I would never have shot it. Joe would also never have been framed, and he wouldn't have gotten angry with me.
I heard a groan coming up from the Ghost Tree, and I had no idea what made the sound, until I looked up. Jenna Ward was rubbing her eyes, like she had just woken up. Once she was fully awake, I thought, I would tell her everything I would tell the police. I would tell her how sorry I was and that I wish I could go back in time and stopped this all from happening.

The Parlour IncidentOne day in July, I believe it was, I found myself sitting with several acquaintances in Christopher's parlour. It was one of those deliciously lazy afternoons which only the summer in her full glory can bring. The room had a wan, listless light to it, relaxing the other guests and myself as we languidly chatted over tea and crumpets. The air was also sluggishly heavy, dulling the senses to a slowly-blended calm engendered by the heat of St. Othniel's southerly climate.
At length, after much stimulating conversation, Christopher stood, producing a book of sheet music.
"What do you all say to a bit of music?" he asked.
"Certainly," I answered.
"Oh yes, please do darling!" Tabitha exclaimed, "he's quite the maestro."
Christopher laughed, shaking his head.
"Now, now love, I'd not go that far."
He strode over to the piano as the other guests urged him on. Ida entered the room bearing a merrily steaming teapot and more crumpets.
